The design for this show used collaged sounds from African American music and historical sound to create a soundscape of constant underscoring and "quilted" sound. Inspired by the works of artist Romare Bearden, the sound design was crafted by active DJ like presence in rehearsal, building off the rhythms of the text and the performance. This design experience was formative for me and my approach to asking questions of context, meaning, and set a new bar for joy in collaborating with generous and creative artists.
